TV images
show a Tour de France spectator spitting at Chris Froome during stage 19 - a
week after he had urine thrown at him.
Froome did
not see the fan spit during the final climb but described it as "appalling
behaviour" after journalists brought the incident to his attention.
The British
Team Sky rider said: "We are human beings primarily, then sportsmen. Don't
come to spit, punch or throw urine.
"That
is appalling behaviour. You can’t come to a bike race and punch riders, or
throw urine at them or spit at them. That’s not acceptable."
A fan threw
a jar of urine at Froome and shouted "doper" during last Saturday’s
race in southern France.
The
30-year-old has been accused of using performance-enhancing drugs throughout
this year’s competition but the athlete insists he is a clean rider.
He
described the urine incident as "extremely disappointing" at the
time.
Froome will
carry a lead of two minutes and 38 seconds into the final competitive stage on
Saturday.
