Residents of Kano on Tuesday heaved a sigh of relief following the first downpour this year, a development that has reduced the temperature from all time 40 degrees high to about 30 degrees Celsius.
Soon after the rains, which lasted for about 60 minutes across the city, the weather momentarily became friendly. Before the downpour, residents in their hundreds were battling with heat wave, as they could hardly sleep at night. Most residents sleep on synthetic mats, spread at balconies of their respective homes.
However, the joy of the residents was shortlived as the scorching heat of the sun resurfaced on Wednesday, forcing the the temperature to rise to an uncomfortable level.
Meanwhile, Kano residents have intensified prayers for the heavens to open up again so as to reduce the temperature to a more conducive level to enable residents to carry out their daily activities.
Most of the streets, which were earlier flooded, had since dried up without any evidence that there was a downpour in the ancient city.
