Teenager docked for stabbing man with bottle

A teenager, Akinmuyiwa Apara, has been arraigned before an Oshodi Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting one Abbey Jonathan by stabbing him with a bottle on his head, with intent to steal.
The accused, whose address is unknown, was said to have stolen N2,500 and one smart phone valued at N28,000, property of Jonathan. Apara was said to have committed the alleged offence at Apakun under bridge on International Airport Road, Mafoluku Oshodi area of Lagos State.

He was arraigned by the police on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy to commit felony to wit stealing, assault and stealing.
One of the charge read: “That you Akinmuyiwa Apara ‘m’ on June 24, 2015 at about 05.50am at at Apakun under bridge International Airport Road, Mafoluku Oshodi in Ikeja Magisterial District dit with intent to steal unlawfully assaulted one Abbey Jonathan ‘m’ by stabbing him with bottle in the head which caused him a deep cut on his head.”
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, informed the court that the offence is punishable under Section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
However, when the charge wasread to the accused before Magistrate Akeem Fashola, he pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Fashola admitted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety to have paid three years tax and verifiable address.
The matter was adjourned to July 15 for trial.
