Game Of Thrones Gets 24 Emmy Nominations


Game Of Thrones has received a leading 24 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations.
The fantasy saga led the charge for HBO, which topped all networks with 126 nominations announced by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Game Of Thrones also earned another crack at the elusive top drama honour.

The Sky Atlantic show will go up against Mad Men, Better Call Saul, Downton Abbey, Homeland, House Of Cards and Orange Is The New Black.

Four-time winner Mad Men would become the most-honoured drama series ever with a win in September.

American Horror Story: Freak Show got 19 nominations on Thursday, while TV movies Olive Kittridge and Bessie received 13 and 12 bids, respectively.

Mad Men, House Of Cards and Amazon's new transgender comedy Transparent garnered 11 Emmy nominations each.

Meanwhile, history could be in the making after Emmy nods for best actress went to black stars Taraji P Henson for Empire and Viola Davis for How To Get Away with Murder.

An African-American actress has never won the top drama acting award.
On the men's side, Mad Men star Jon Hamm and House Of Cards' Kevin Spacey will face off against Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk, Bloodline's Kyle Chandler, Jeff Daniels for The Newsroom and Liev Schreiber for Ray Donovan.

Perennial TV academy favourite Modern Family has a shot at a record sixth straight top comedy award.
Louie, Silicon Valley, Transparent, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Veep will vie to break Modern Family's streak.

The 67th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on 20 September. Actor-comedian Andy Samberg is slated to host the event.
